This blog is about people with disabilities in and around Rourkela,a small town in Western Orissa, India. These children and adults with disABILITIES probably deserve a better deal from everyone of us and the society needs to be sensitive enough to meet their needs and demands as human beings and provide them their basic rights.

B S Das
Bhabani Sankar Das is a senior colleague of mine who super-annuated on 31st May 2005 from his position here with us as Joint Director, Medical and Health Services, Ispat General Hospital, Rourkela. This man is unique in the sense that either you love or hate to adore him. A man with a very frail frame he showed examplary courage in dealing with both adversity and success. A man who believes in team work he is a born team leader. An academician par-excellence he demands the best from his colleagues and often grills them to an extent that he's differently called by many people-"Chanakya", "Professor" and "Bhisma Pitamaha" etc. The contrast in this man's character-in my observation- has been his strong belief in God and his dogged persuit for scientific excellence. But then he is a myth to many. But to many like me he is a down to earth man who is just humane. He empathises with others easily and often very convincingly .He is one person who as a colleague and well-wisher has always encouraged me to work in the field of disability-be it as a professional or as a parent. This unique man left us about a year ago to join Department of Bio-technology, GOI as an Advisor. He returned back to us for less than a week to have his superannuation from here at Rourkela. He'll go back to the national capital to resume his work as an Advisor, DBT. We wish him to continue his journey as a good human being.
