Rasmirekha Sahu, A Down's girl from Home and Hope won this year's National Award in Individual capacity in the category of Mental Retardation provided by the National Trust. She received the award on 26th September from the Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ms. Meira Kumar. Rashmirekha is an accomplished Odishi dancer apart from being very good singer and sports person. With good socialisation skills, Rashmi has participated and represented Home and Hope, Rourkela in various National level competitions and has won laurels for herself and Home and Hope, the later being her Institute for the last 20 years.She was well taken care by her special educators during her formative days and her parents have been extremely supportive in taking care of her creative needs and supportive in taking her to various places in exposing her talents.

Independence Day celebrated at Home and Hope



The Chief Guest Sri Subhash Ch. Kar, General Manager, Town Services, SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant is very much associated with Home and Hope for more than a decade. A lover of poetry Sri Kar has written poems on intellectual disability. A well-loved personality in Home and Hope, Mr. Kar is seen hoisting the flag and dstributing sweet packets to children.

Home and Hope Production Centre is a Vocational Unit for adults with intellectual disability, cerebral palsy and autism. Started with an initial grant of 1 lakh rupees from NIMH, Secunderabad, this unit now has about 38 adults working in it. They produce envelopes, wax diyas, candles and do screen and batique painting etc. On the occasion of ensuing Rakhi Purnima, they have produced the above variety of rakhis.

Feroz Alam(Left)and M V Viswanath(Right) along with coach Saroj K Mohanty. Feroze will represent India in hand ball while Viswanath will be a part of bi-cycle team at Sanghai Special Olympics. Home and Hope has always produced international calibre athelets who have made the country proud and behind it is our coach Sri Saroj Mohanty who is involved in Special Olympics for the last 25years both at the National and International level and has been a source of encouragement to all athelets from Home and Hope.

A group of parents from Bhubaneswar headed by Sri Ajoy K Jena reached Rourkela on 1st July 2007 and a day-long seminar of parents was conducted in the premises of Home and Hope. Along with Mr. Jena, close parent-friends like Sri RG Das, Dr. Prusty, Mr. Padhy and Mr. Patra were in the team. Parent memebrs from our own Association apart from "Shradha", "Hope" and teachers of "Asha Deep" attended the day-long convention. Mr. Ajoy Jena appraised the situation in holding the National Parents Meet by all Parent Associations in December 2007 at Bhubaneswar and sought everyone's support.
