Dr. P K Nanda is an well-known Psychiartist of Rourkela and is a founder-member of Home and Hope. Even after his retirement he exposes an empathy rarely seen in other socialites of his time. Always a friend of people with disabilities Dr. Nanda still works for the welfare of the intellectually disabled in Rourkela.

HRB Clinic, IGH

This child has been attending our clinic since he was one and half years old. He has cerebral palsy but now is able to walk well, run a bit and fairly good communication skills. But what his mother wanted is to find a school for his education. He was not taken by any school near Nala Road where the parents stay. We handed over the mother with a request letter to Mrs. M. Mukherjee, Principal, Indo-English School, almost near her residence who has always empathised with the people with disabilities. Posted by Picasa

The second child in the family has become the centre of worry now. He has definite features of cerebral palsy and though we disclosed the diagnosis in a congenial atmosphere it was not very well accepted by the parents. Posted by Picasa

A small baby with cerebral palsy in mother's lap and supporting them is the maternal grand mother a typical scene in Indian context. We have not come across many paternal side of relations being overtly supportive of a child with disability. Posted by Picasa

High Risk Baby Clinic, IGH

This elderly couple contacted HRB Clinic in IGH for their 15 years old son's intellectual disability. They stay in Rourkela town but now that the boy in teens is unmanageable they felt like seeking some professional help. Almost all schools in their locality closed doors to the boy despite the fact that the Union and State Governments have made a ploicy and implemented Sarva Siskshya Abhiyan in which the children with disabilities are integrated in normal schools. We advised the couple to bring their son to Home and Hope, the local special school for the MR and trained both parents in behaviour modification techniques. Posted by Picasa
