These children and adults with disABILITIES probably deserve a better deal from everyone of us and the society needs to be sensitive enough to meet their needs and demands as human beings and provide them their basic rights.

Supported Decision Making for adults with developmental disabilities- Phase-II training programme for parents and the support network was conducted at Rourkela on 17th & 18th July 2010. Sri Vijay Kant, Programme Manager of PARIVAAR, National Federation of Parents Associations, India was the Chief resource person. The Programme was inaugurated in Rourkela Club by the Chief Guest Sri Narayan Pati, General Manager, Corporate Social Responsibility, SAIL, Rourkela Steel Plant and Dr. Pankaj K Nanda, a well-known psychiatrist in Rourkela who has been associated with Home & Hope from its inception was the Guest of Honour. Ten self-advocates along with their family members and some doctors and lawyers took part in the seminar. The programme was conducted by PARIVAAR with financial assistance from Disability Rights Fund, USA. Though PArents Association for welfare of the Mentally Retarded, Rourkela organised the programme, all 3 associations in Sundargarh namely Shradha, Rourkela and Hope, Rajgangpur also took active part in the programme. Sri Ajay K Jena, Vice-President, PARIVAAR also attended the programme.
