Popularly known as Tuna, Sabyasachi Samal was a parent-activist in the field of disabilities in Western Odisha and passed away with a heart attack on 9th morning.Father of a person with developmental disability Tuna, along with Dr. D Singh Bhangu and Laxmidhar Panigrahi led the parents and established Hope, the special school in Rajgangpur . It was no easy task and they all toiled hard for years in establishing the special school in the land donated by the late father of Dr. Singh. And ever since that time Tuna has remained the Secretary of school and Association. An Executive member of PARIVAAR, the National Federation of Parents' organisation, Tuna has been very active at the State and National level and was instrumental in successfully organising the Regional Parents Meet under the guidance of the then NIMH a couple of years back. To my knowledge his heartbroken family members have lost their most loving earning member, Rajgangpur has lost a worthy son , his friends a rock-solid friend but Disability has lost one of the most trustworthy and fighting members - particularly from Western Odisha.
May Tuna inspire many and may his soul rest in peace.
This blog is about people with disabilities in and around Rourkela,a small town in Western Orissa, India. These children and adults with disABILITIES probably deserve a better deal from everyone of us and the society needs to be sensitive enough to meet their needs and demands as human beings and provide them their basic rights.
